Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Job Description
-Reporting to the Occupational Health and Rehabilitation Specialist, the Medicals Officer will implement a consistent and standard methodology to medicals management across Steelmaking Coal using defined systems and processes, including ensure the Company’s compliance and educating employees on their obligations in relations to the Coal Mine Workers’ Health Scheme .

Key responsibilities:

• Execute administration tasks to ensure compliance with medicals management processes, including:
  • Liaising with workers, medical service providers and site health representatives
  • Managing booking requests, including tracking attendance
  • Review outcomes of medicals
• Act as the Company system administrator for regulator’s online solution ResHealth
• Enter role specific health risk exposure information into ResHealth
• Provide advice and support to workers to comply with regulatory obligations in relation to the Coal Mine Workers’ Health Scheme
• Act as point of contact for medical service providers, ensuring services are delivered in line with contractual requirements
• Support the implementation of Group Standards and Specifications at SMC operations, and review and support each operations improvement plans to address any identified gaps
• Regularly review policies, procedures to support the need of the Company

• Qualifications
  -Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution (essential)
• Exceptional administrative skills, including organisation, prioritisation and advanced computer skills (essential)
• Previous health administrative experience will be highly regarded
• High level of knowledge and experience of the Coal Mine Workers’ Health Scheme (desirable)
• Experience working in the Queensland coal mining industry; previous site experience will be highly regarded
• Tertiary qualification in a relevant health discipline, including psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or nursing (desirable)
• Ability to be able to work effectively and collaboratively in teams to achieve collective outcomes
• Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset
